Errol Brown, Hot Chocolate singer, dies aged 71

Brown had liver tumor and passed on at his home in the Bahamas, said Phil Dale.

Hot Chocolate had hits in more than 50 nations around the world, including You Sexy Thing - which Brown co-composed - It Started with a Kiss and Every 1's a Winner.

Brown was made a MBE by the Queen in 2003 and got an Ivor Novello recompense for his extraordinary commitment to British music in 2004.

You Sexy Thing, Hot Chocolate's best-known hit and a main 10 single in the 1970s and '80s, outlined again in the UK when it was included in The Full Monty in 1997.



An announcement from Brown's supervisor on Wednesday affirmed the vocalist's demise.

"Errol Brown MBE passed away in The Bahamas today with his wife Ginette and little girls Colette and Leonie by his side of liver malignancy," he said.

"Errol was a mate of life and clearly "music!" I never went into his home, auto or a lodging room without music playing.

"Errol was a 'Tender Man' and was an individual companion of mine who will be tragically missed by everybody who knew him," Phil Dale proceeded.

"His most prominent legacy is that his music will live on!"

Kindred craftsmen including Chic's Nile Rodgers have paid tribute on Twitter.

Rodgers kept in touch with: "We had some great times once upon a time. #ErrolBrown RIP".

Vocalist Beverley Knight tweeted: "I am so gutted. Errol Brown was such an alluring entertainer."





Brown was conceived in Jamaica however moved to the UK with his mom when he was 12.

His musical profession started in 1969 when he and a few companions sent their own particular reggae rendition of Give Peace a Chance to its essayist John Lennon.

"We all snickered about it," Brown told BBC Breakfast in 2009.

"Amazingly, after a week I got a call to say John Lennon endorsed it and needed to sign the band to the Apple record mark - and that is the way we started."

Brown said they were initially named by a young lady working at the record organization as The Hot Chocolate Band, which was later abbreviated.

Late record maker and hitmaker Mickie Most joined Brown and his companion Tony Wilson as musicians towards the end of 1969, championing Brown's written work and singing.

He recorded their melodies with Mary Hopkin, Julie Felix and Herman's Hermits.

Hot Chocolate discharged their first single Love is Life in 1970 and the melody went to number six in the outlines.


The gathering had no less than one hit consistently somewhere around 1970 and 1984, making Hot Chocolate the main gathering in the UK to have a hit for 15 back to back years.

In 1985, Brown left the band to invest more energy with his crew. Anyway, he made a rebound in the 1990s with two performance UK visits.





Goodbye visit

Chestnut left on a goodbye visit in 2009, telling BBC Breakfast he had "done all [he] needed to do".

"I'm getting somewhat more seasoned now, you know," he went on. "It's difficult to gather the bag and get back out and about once more.

"However, the music will be there, so that won't go away."

In a message on his site after the visit, he expressed gratitude toward fans for turning out in vast numbers to demonstrate their adoration and backing.

"The climate at the shows were the best ever," he composed, "and you had influence in making me understand exactly how wrong it would have been to have recently floated away and not say farewell.

"The affection I felt at every show will stay in my heart until the end of time."
